Our copy of this book is being used constantly by our consulting staff. It covers the complicated process of shipping products to foreign markets. We recommend it to our clients, especially those who handle their own international shipping, insurance and payment processing. John R. Jagoe, Director, Export Institute.

As the title suggests, this is a documentation book and does this job really well. I bought this book as a novice without any knowledge of the procedure and I can comment that now I have good knowledge of the process. Small companies can benefit and may need only 1/4 of this book and large organizations can search from the huge pile of information. Even if you are starting out a small export business, this is one book you should refer to.

This book has given me a good background & examples.
It is devided as 3 parts (export, import, appendix), but the contents for export & import are almost same, I mean too much repeating.
Anyway what a good book!!
Today I have ordered other books related export & import, so we will see.

This book is large because it contains a lot of information you may not care about. For example, how to set up a corporate ex/im department. What you pay for are those sections of some chapters that are on point. This is information you probably wont get anywhere else. Whereas the book is somewhat out of date– it contains copies of a lot of old paper forms whereas the world is going digital and online– it’s good to have familiarity with the content and purpose of these forms anyway as they document the process itself, which you need to understand. The key descriptive sections you need are also vital even if the rest of the book may seem pointless. I bought the book used but in prime condition and plan to hang on to it for occasional refresher reads. I’m not sure I would pay full retail as the parts I needed were a small portion of the overall book. But I did need those parts.

Some good information in this book. It was a little outdated, but I understand that this business is very fluid and canges all the time. Most of the business information was common-sense, practical stuff. I wish the authors had given more concrete examples of what to expect when you actually start exposting and importing goods, and which countries to avoid, and for what reason, etc.
Still a good book with basic information that is useful to someone trying to get into export-import.

The author of this book is very experienced, and it shows. He also conveys the sheer excitement of owning an export or import business unlike any other other book I’ve read. And if you can’t be excited about what you’re doing, why are you doing it? Unlike other books, he also starts out with a self-examination (yours) about how you would fit into such a business. Understanding the personal side of the business, yours and your business contacts, is arguably more important to success than understanding the mechanics of the business. Thus this book is an exceptional preparation for the business as a whole. I also liked that many points are illustrated with vignettes, small stories from experience that make the points much easier to understand. But as is often true, I found some of the information simplistic, such as the financial forecasting which was back-of-the-envelope, nothing you could ever run a business on. I also found that a considerable portion of the references to online sources were obsolete, essentially useless. Online references, even government ones, are too dynamic to publish, and I wonder why anyone even does that. From the overall tone of the book, I suspect the author has experience as an ex/im broker, that aspect of the business that has the lowest overhead and investment. If attractive to you, you definitely want to have this book. If you are a merchant importer or exporter, you will also want this book as it contains all those bits of deep experience of the kind you cannot find anywhere else.
